How it works

Unlike poles face across a set air gap. Each side is two N52 discs stacked (2-on-2), so the couplet is roughly double the thickness of a single pair.

The couplet holds the carrier in battery. Recoil has to overcome breakaway force. Until it does, the bolt does not move — that is the delay, measured in milliseconds of hold, not a gas-port timer.

Once the gap opens, attraction collapses fast (axial pull falls with gap). The like-pole MBS stack — or the hybrid buffer — then takes the stroke.

On return, if leftover energy is below snap work, the couplet grabs again. Recapture kills bounce. If return energy is too high, it can leak past — that is why diameter, thickness, stack, and gap are the lab knobs.

Axial attraction of coaxial N52 discs falls fast with gap. Snap work is the integral of that force over the opening. Hold delay is the time a typical BCG spends loading that couplet. Recapture is just energy accounting: return KE vs snap work.

Magnetic delay

Two N52 magnets pulling on two N52 magnets. Unlike poles face each other. The bolt stays until that couplet breaks free — then the same pair recaptures on the way home.
