How it works
MBS-C replaces the mil-spec buffer and spring inside a standard carbine receiver extension. Same tube length. Installs like a mil-spec assembly.
Staggered magnets stage resistance as the bolt carrier comes back — inertia is absorbed in phases, each calibrated for the mass and velocity of the caliber. A precision-tuned spring still returns the carrier. That is the hybrid: magnets do the progressive work, the spring covers return energy.
This is not the eight-magnet springless prototype. The 8-disc like-pole stack is lab hardware. Everything PAMAX sells is hybrid magnets-plus-spring.
PAMAX Tactical manufactures the commercial unit under license. Fry’s Customs does limited signed runs and Cerakote.
Staggered fields give a stepped 1/r² wall instead of a single linear spring rate. The spring is still there — it is just no longer doing all the work. Peak force arrives later in travel than a coil going solid.

Hybrid assembly
One axis. Magnets float apart because like poles shove. Spring and copper slugs run the same direction — barrels, not coins on their side.
Floating apart
Like poles shove the discs open. Gaps are the spring.

Versus mil-spec spring
- Hybrid magnets + spring, not a coil-only buffer
- Staged resistance instead of one spring rate
- Drop-in — no receiver work
- Suppressed-friendly cyclic
